Having posted a new topic, some thoughts on new format.

First Section:

> The three current parts are in the wrong order.  They need to be reversed, with the "Coaching Forum" top, then "Archives", then "Admin"

> The "Recommended Training Material" should go between "Archives" and "Admin", and the old forum's "books topic" needs to be copied and pinned into this section.  (Why reinvent the wheel?)

> The admin section needs to make much more clear that it's about forum administration, and that posts asking soccer questions/advice belong on the coaching forum.   Is there any reason why the site feedback section cannot be combined with this one?

"Coaching Discussion" Section:

As described this is identical to the "coaching forum" section.  What it really seems to be is more of a "how-to" section for drills, teaching tactics and coach training/licensing programs.  Probably better placed as sub-categories of the "coaching forum"

I don't know what it would take to reconfigure theses things, but I do believe that such a rearrangement would be much more logical and considerably less duplicative.

Thanks Oldtimer, I agree 100% with your suggestions.  I will make the adjustments as soon as the developer is done with the data migration.  I don't know why but he requested I not move the order of the forums until he's all done.  I hope its within a couple of days so we can sort it the correct way.

One more:  any hope of a "log me in anytime I visit" feature?

A few minor things.

1. I'm not sure how a user's "tag line" is set under their name, but it's amusing to see folks who have been on this board for over a decade with thousands of posts show up as "Junior Members".

2. On Firefox 43.0.3, if you are looking at the forum directory and shrink the width of your window so that some of the forum titles wrap to two or more lines, the title overlaps vertically with the forum description text,.

3. The header along with the four pictures are large enough to push everything else down "below the fold", so if I click on something it's not always apparent I'm actually on something different... I still see the header and those four pictures, and have to scroll down to see the stuff I am looking for (like the actual list of forums, or my profile info, or whatever). I almost missed the password reset stuff until I scrolled down to find it.  Maybe just make that block of four photos a bit less tall?

Like I said, minor. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to the new features. See you all over there!

Thanks for the post and I agree, the "tag line" and member status needs to be updated to reflect the longevity and post count. That should be a simple thing to update.

For 2 and 3, I am going to send that over to the web designer to see if they can do anything about it.

See you on the other site [smile]

The user rankings are as follows:

0 - 30 posts = Junior Member

30 - 100 = Member

100 + = Senior Member

I am going to do some research and reset these accordingly

1. Not too 'hung up' on benji....what some might see as a 'Senior Member' might view as 'Sad - Get a Life" [biggrin]

2. Don't use Firefox but the same happens on other broswers too

3. Yeah, this IS irritating and needs to be shrunk to make it easier on the eye.

Also, where are the emoticons??? - love putting them in now and-again [biggrin]

I've also left a message on the new site about it being TOO busy format wise.
I liked the simplicity of ONE place to debate, ONE place you KNEW everyone would be.
Were all busy people (even IF I find time to debate), so TIME is a premium.
There should be a 'Meeting Place' where EVERY visitor goes to FIRST when they click and THEN a MAIN forum (like this one) and THEN the sud divided forums.... just saying.

1 - working on making adjustments to the "ranking"

2 - Developer is looking into that can be done.  We had an announcement window up with some info about checking your email address in your account, that pushed the forum further down.  That has been removed now.

3 - See above

Emotions can be found when replying to, or when creating a new post, just click on the smiley face and you will see more emotions to choose from.

Here is a snapshot, smiley face is on the far right side >>>>>>

I will work on the format layout once the migration is complete, we have some clean up for to do.

Thanks for the feedback, it will make for a much better site as we progress.

vin,

Is it beyond reason to try and create a 'MIRROR' page of the old and-again coaching forum page and THEN have the little signposts where we can find the equivalent in the new format.

My own reasoning is that whenever you do a switch like this no matter what the industry, you initially make it the new version as near to the old one so the migration is easier for the user. Then you can add features one at a time just like they do in video games when you reach a task, you 'release' bonuses etc.

Yes that possible the way its currently setup, but let me know if you had something else in mind.  If you click the link below it will take you right into the coaching forum:

Coaching Forum

Once all the data is there you will see everything from the old coaching forum in the New Coaching Forum Topics, everything in one spot.

I hope to have that done ASAP, just waiting on the developer to finish the data validation.  You will see the old threads on the new site but they have a code at the end.  Once the data is cleared those codes will drop off.

Let me know if I completely missed what you are asking for

I know that some forum software actually lets you set your own "tag line" instead of just something based on post count (sometimes not until you reach a certain number of posts, though). I don't care either way, but it's fun sometimes to see how some use that feature. [biggrin]
